Spyder's Great Escape

Spyder is our 4 year old Border Collie and is full of energy and loves to be with people. When he isn''t playing with his soccer ball in the back yard, he spends his days bouncing up and down along the fence that surrounds our yard. Our neighbors have gotten to know him as the dog that peeks over the top of the fence. With his bouncing and desire to be with people, he has become one determined pup and has figured out how to leap over our 6 foot tall cinder block wall. He figured this trick out first on New Year''s Eve day. He went on a walking tour of town, and at some point was picked up by a wonderful person who brought him to a shelter. Once the shelter re-opened after the holiday''s we received a call that Spyder was found and confirming he was still ours based on the information from the microchip. Before we knew where he was, I reported him lost through HomeAgain and they sent out notices to all the local agencies. I was hopeful we had a great chance of getting him back safely. We were so relieved he was safe and that microchip had worked to bring him home. A few days later, the shelter that had been notified of our lost dog had called with a dog that had the same features, but I informed them our dog was safely at home, inside the house with me! We came up with a fix for the fence to eliminate another chance of escape which only lasted a day or two, before he became a determined high jumper and was able to now clear two fences! Luckily these next few times he ran to our front door and just waited for us to open it! This guy has now made a game of this! So with that we built him a nice fully enclosed dog run. We figured that we now had a safe home for him. But two short days later, we received a call from Animal Control that they had Spyder! This sneaky guy certainly has put his microchip to use this year. We now have reinforced the enclosure and hope that Spyder stays home while we are gone at work.
