My dog Cassie has pretty much been glued to me her whole life. My wife and I teach school overseas and travel back and forth to the states at least twice a year, always brining Cassie with us. We travel to our home in Cleveland, TN and usually take trips to Florida and Ohio to visit our daughters and their families. While visiting our daughter in Ohio during this past Christmas break, the day after Christmas, our little Cassie got outside thinking I was out in the yard. She couldn’t find me and took off down the hilly driveway looking for me. She got out on the four-lane highway and almost immediately got hit. Traffic continued until a Good Samaritan, Megan Stanislaw and her mother, stopped and scooped Cassie off of the highway and took her to their Vet, which wasn’t all that far from my daughter’s house. Within 15 minutes of Cassie getting hit and being picked up and taken to the Animal Hospital, I received a phone call on my cell phone from the clinic informing me that they had my pet and that she was in stable condition. I just about freaked out thinking the worse. Once I got to the clinic, the Vet said Cassie had less than 50% chance of survival. They had her hooked up to two IV’s and was pumping her up with fluids and Valium for the pain. We were certainly distressed thinking we were getting ready to lose our little friend of four year. Since we teach school in Germany, we had to leave two days later in order to make our flight. A few days after we left Cassie behind with giving guardianship to our daughter, the clinic called our daughter and said Cassie was ready to be released as they had done all they could for her. Well, to everyone’s surprise, not only did Cassie get released from the hospital but also had a full recovery within a few weeks. We had to come back to the states for a family emergency and while we were there, we drove back to Ohio and picked up Cassie and she now is back in Germany with us! If she had not had the chip in her neck, we may have never been reunited. Thank you HomeAgain for an amazing reunion.
