An Onslow County resident brought in a little min pinscher that was found on Hwy 17, into the Onslow County Animal Shelter on 9/16/09. The citizen stated he had almost hit the dog on the busy road. When logging in the dog, he was scanned for a microchip and found he had one in him.
Animal Services then contacted the HomeAgain database, and found the dog's owner. The dog was registered to an owner in Raleigh, NC (about 2 hours away). Animal Services immediately contacted the owner.
Apparently, the dog had been stolen from the owner 3 years prior! At the time, a police report was made out but they were unsuccessful in finding the dog.
Thanks to the Onslow County Animal Services, the owner was successfully reunited with their long lost dog! It's wonderful, stories like this that have encouraged other pet owners in Onslow County to have their pets microchipped.
